Oromia Coffee Union & To Bean or Not to Bean
The coffee roasting company in Stratford, Ontario known as To Bean or Not to Bean exemplifies the ways a small family business in North America can operate in support of global and environmental justice every day.
Their ethical coffee bean procurement includes purchasing from coffee growing cooperatives, a 100% commitment to coffee cultivated organically, and other sustainable environmental and economic principles like shade-grown and fair-trade beans.
To celebrate a Polio Free Africa, To Bean or Not to Bean has created a blend, in partnership with The Rotary Club of Festival City, sourcing from Oromia Coffee Union – a coalition of more than 400 Ethiopian cooperatives representing over 400,000 household farmers in the African region where coffee first originated.
Cooperative members use revenue from Fair Trade sales for equipment purchases, repairs and food security by intercropping coffee plants with citrus and bananas. Their commitment to organic production provides technical assistance to it's members, including workshops on composting.
Oromia's coffee is heirloom, forest-grown, organic, bird-friendly and grown by indigenous farmers of the southwestern rainforest of Ethiopia. Your investment contributes to community and individual wellbeing, as well as access to services and basic needs in Ethiopia, in partnership with local roasters, offering a fresh, high quality product, which also supports End Polio Now. All that in just a cup of coffee!
